Artist's Comments

This is the moon shortly before occulting the Pleiades (Seven Sisters) star cluster on April 8th 2008. I went to Mount Pollux, Amherst, Massachusetts to capture this photo through my Meade 6'' LXD75 Schmidt Newtonian. The dark side of the moon is illuminated because Earthshine, or light from the sun reflected off of Earth. The purple "ghost" is internal reflections from the corrector plate of the telescope.

Very nice capture! Great how the pleiades and the moon are exposed well

I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road - Stephen Hawking
Thank you! :)
